Don't use anything made by Harz, their products are horrible, contain harsh chemicals.

HyLite is a shampoo recommended to me years ago by people who show their dogs, a lot of show groomers use it.
It cleans without stripping the oil from the coat or drying the dog's skin. Dog shampoos should never contain detergent the way human shampoos do.

You can get HyLite at some vets or online – it's a bit pricy, but goes a long way.

If you don't get HyLite be sure to get a shampoo that states it is non-detergent.

All shampoos tend to strip body oils from the hair and skin, but some are milder than others. Try Isle of Dogs Coature No. 10 Evening Primrose Oil Dog Shampoo for Dry and Sensitive Skin, it is an excellent product.

The other thing to do is to address the source of the dry skin. Add Omega fatty acids to your dog's diet.

  • Alex Richards says:

Bathing too often can cause dry skin, because it depletes the coat's natural oils.

I recommend getting a high quality oatmeal shampoo and only bathing like once a month or if your dog gets relly dirty.

Also call a vet. He may have allergies or a skin condition.

9 times out of 10 just water is the best.
At our grooming shop we dilute the shampoo about 1,000 to 1.
